EA execs earned $60 million in 2024 despite layoffs and office closures

U.S. publisher EA has revealed how much its executives netted during FY2024, a 12-month period that saw it deliver annual net bookings of $7.43 billion but also cut 5 percent of its global workforce.As noted in the company's annual Proxy Statement, which details its executive compensation plan, EA's named executive officers collectively earned over $60 million during the last fiscal year. A new report from Quantic Foundry shows how much the strategy game genre (your Company of Heroes and Civilzations) has persisted, despite a decline in strategic thinking from players over the years.Over 1.57 million players were surveyed between June 2015 and April 2024. As of now, 67 percent of players show less interest in strategic thinking over the last nine years.However, no specific cause was determined beyond a "larger, long-term cultural/psychological shift."Even with that, SteamData shows strategy games have grown since 2015. As of 2022, the genre peaked at over 2,400 titles released.The percentage of strategy titles released has stayed steady over time. 2023 saw CD Projekt’s second-best financials in studio history

CD Projekt posted its financials for the entire 2023-2024 fiscal year, which saw increases across the board. From January 1, 2023-December 31, 2023, the larger entity reached its second-best financials in its entire 29-year history.Consolidated revenue and net profit reached 1.230 billion ($308.17 million) and 481 million ($120.51 million) PLN, respectively. Individually, both went up by 29 percent and 39 percent from the 2022-2023 fiscal year.Much of this can be attributed to Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty expansion and its 2.0 update. Between the two's "strong sales," the franchise has made 3 billion PLN ($751.76 million) in revenue.
